How To Locate The Right Massage Therapist
The stress of work has finally taken enough of a toll on you that you are looking to start some massage therapy to make those kinks and pains go away. The problem is that you do not know a massage therapist and have no idea how to locate one. The Internet is a great tool for this, but there are a few questions that need to be answered first.
Why am I getting a massage? There are a host of reasons why someone would want to get a massage. Someone who is active athletically may have a different reason for getting a massage than someone who runs a major corporation. Some people need massages for their health because of certain deteriorating conditions.
Who should I call? Another great question and very easy to answer. Start asking around to find some friends that know a massage therapist. If they were satisfied, it would be a great idea to talk to the therapist. Even if they are a Swedish massage therapist and you are looking for a deep tissue massage, it would still be a good idea to see whom they recommend.
Should I choose a male or female therapist? This very important because being comfortable is very important. Some men are not comfortable with another man massaging them and there is nothing wrong with that. The same can be said for women. While it will not be sexual for the masseur, some people just cannot get over that hump.
Check them out and make sure the short-list has at least three or four names on it. Once it has been narrowed down, it is time to do some investigating to make sure they are indeed a professional therapist. Check with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and even the Better Business Bureau.
The best therapist in the world will do no good if the check that has to be written is more than you can afford. There will usually be therapists in just about every price bracket, so finding one that is affordable should not be a problem. Sometimes they will even work out a deal if a series of massages is booked.
After gathering names, checking them out, and agreeing on price, it is still important to talk to some of their clients. A respected therapist will have no problem giving references. If the therapist acts funny about it, this may very well be a legitimate cause for concern. However, the therapist may just be protecting the client’s privacy, so this may not be something over which you would dismiss them.
Finding a good massage therapist can be a bit of a chore, but the reward is worth it. There is nothing like having your own therapist that knows you and your body and can fix all that ails you. When you are truly comfortable with the therapist, you will be relaxed and your body will get the full benefit of the massage every single time that it is given.
